Podcast Episode 273: 10 Things Women Get Told In Public That Don’t Need to be Said… Ever

Ah, the joys of being a woman in public and handling what feels like the never ending parade of unsolicited advice! It seems like everyone and their dog has an opinion on how we should look, act, or feel.

Whether it’s an unsolicited comments and advice like…

“You should smile more”,

or a probing question, like…

“Who’s watching the kids?”,

the public sphere can sometimes feel like a minefield of rudeness.

We’ve all been there- You’re just minding your own business, maybe deep in thought or just having a neutral expression, and someone feels the need to tell you to smile. Because apparently, women’s default setting should be cheerleader mode.

No thank you.

Navigating public interactions can be a minefield of unsolicited advice and intrusive questions. But by teaching our children respect and empathy, we can hope for a future where these rude remarks become relics of the past.

Until then, let’s keep smiling (when we want to) and owning our fabulous selves!

In this episode of the No Guilt Mom podcast you’ll learn:

  • Our favorite but also not so favorite frustrating things people have asked us in public
  • Why society feels entitled to ask women things about their appearance, job, or cooking abilities
  • Ways to respond to people who ask frustrating questions without getting asked to leave whatever public establishment you’re at
  • The importance of talking with your kids about how to communicate with others, and particularly women, in public and all the time
