Podcast Episode 251: Why We Think Screentime Limits Need to Go!
I think we’ve all been there…
It’s a busy evening, and you’re juggling between making dinner, helping with homework, and trying to catch up on some work emails. Meanwhile, your kids are engrossed in their tablets or phones, providing you with a few moments of peace amidst the chaos. Sound familiar?
Personally, I’ve been through this scenario countless times, torn between the guilt of allowing my kids screen time and the relief it brings when I need to focus on other tasks. But what if I told you that perhaps it’s time to reconsider our approach to screen time limits?
In this podcast episode, we’re going to share an unpopular opinion – we are OVER SCREENTIME GUILT! Although a relatively new term in the world of parenting, screentime has suddenly (but not surprisingly) become just one more thing that Moms are in charge of worrying about, managing, and solving. And to be honest… this worry isn’t worth the stress on your mental load.
There are all kinds of strategies and quick fixes out there to help you police this behavior with your kids but at the end of the day, we think they end up being a lot of effort, tons of energy, and little reward.
So we say, stop fighting the rough fight and just relax.
In this episode of the No Guilt Mom podcast you’ll learn:
- How to work with your partner and share the responsibility of managing screentime for your kids
- The importance of teaching our kids to use screens in a healthy way so you can spend your energy on more important things
- Screentime isn’t actually the demon it’s often made out to be, and sometimes it creates time for you to do what you need to do in order to be present with your family later
- Why ditching the guilt surrounding screentime is important for your own health, wellness, and sanity!
