How I Tripled My Blog Pageviews
How I Get Readers to Click on My Emails
I recently changed my email strategy.
A few months ago, I did what many bloggers did in terms of email. I wrote newsletters.
Every few weeks, I published a newsletter that contained a personal message from me along with links to current posts. I wrote it because every other blogger I knew wrote one.
Each Wednesday, I clicked send and diligently monitored how many people opened my emails and how many people clicked on my links.
Week after week, only 2 people clicked through to read a post.
2 people?!? Why was I writing a newsletter if only 2 people are coming to my blog via email?
I needed my email to drive traffic back to my site. It wasn’t working. So, I changed it.
I started emailing my list EVERY time I published a new post. Here’s one I just sent yesterday:
I was scared. My hand shook whenever I pushed the send button. Would my subscribers revolt against me and decry me (gulp)… a spammer? Would they start to hate me and unsubscribe in droves?
None of that happened. My subscribers did however start clicking through to read my posts. I think this is due to my emails being more focused with only one call to action instead of several.
I went from 1-2 people clicking on an email link to 40-50 people clicking on an email link.
Best of all, I own my list. I am not at the mercy of a Facebook or Pinterest algorithm change. The email list is strictly under my control.

I am happy to answer any question you have in the comments below.
Wow you’re doing amazingly well! I’m really trying to grow too and I’ve stated paginating long posts, but most of mine aren’t that long so it doesn’t make as much sense. That’s a great sponsored post total. That’s definitely what I am working toward.
Thanks Julie! Something I didn’t mention is that I don’t do any more sponsored posts than I did at the beginning of blogging. But I have been charging and getting paid more for them.
I’m still on the fence about pagination. You’ve done a great job with it in this post which is inspiring. Thanks for the tips!
Hi Rebecca! I was honestly on the fence too until I tried it 🙂 Thank you for your kind words!
JoAnn,
How exciting. You do a good job with the whole “Next” page thing by leaving a sort of cliffhanger. You are actually using the Zeigarnik Effect and it works well in marketing and with your blog post!
I’m a freelance writer and own several blogs. I just started a new blog and am trying to find ways to increase my traffic and engagement. Thanks for these tips!
I definitely have to get my newsletter up and running soon!
Hi, Ella! Thanks for naming it for me 🙂 Good luck in your own blogs! It’s daunting when you are starting out on a new project!
What website do you run your blog though?
Hi Katie! I use Bluhost for hosting and manage it on WordPress.
