Are you Wearing the Right Bra?
Getting Fitted for a Bra
The Victoria’s Secret Bra Fit
I always thought that there was only one place to get fitted for a bra: Victoria’s Secret.
Here’s what happens when you walk in:
You head back to pink striped dressing room and tell an attendant that you would like to be measured. She pulls out her measuring tape and asks you to stand in front of her with your hands on your hips.
You oblige. Then, she takes two measurements: one around the widest part of your bust under your armpits and the other below your breasts where your bra strap lies.
From there, she recommends a size and escorts you back to the dressing room. Once you have the size on, she’ll step in and check out the fit. If it looks good, she’ll bring you back a wide variety of bras to try on.
(Coffee definitely necesary during bra fitting 🙂
All good, right?
Yes, except for one drawback.
Victoria’s Secret only carries their own bras. You know how you prefer one company’s jeans over the other? It’s the same with bras. At Victoria’s Secret, you only get to try Victoria’s Secret bras. If the company’s style doesn’t fit, you are not going to find a bra that completely fits either.
So what to do?
The Nordstrom Bra Fit
If you have access to a Nordstrom, you will get one of the best bra fittings anywhere. And I say that from experience.
So, what’s different?
Head over to lingerie section, ask for a fitting and the bra fit specialist will take you into a dressing room. She will take one measurement – your band size. Then she will make a guess at your cup size.
She’ll leave the room and return with the “fit” bras. These are bras all in your band size but different cup sizes.
She suggests one to try on and will actually help you into it. Yes, it takes a little getting used to. You can try it on her without her in the room too. It’s totally your choice!
When it’s on, she’ll assess the fit and if it’s good, will bring lots of bras, including different brands, in your size to try on.
The awesome part is that Nordstrom has access to some amazing bra brands that fit phenomenally. Once you try one on, it’s hard to go back. The drawback is that the price point tends to be a little high.
I spend about $68 for each of my bras, but they last at least a year. To me, that’s worth it.
Psst… make sure your bras never go in the dryer. If you hand wash them once a week, they will keep their shape and look perfect for that entire year.
My favorite bra, which I bought in multiple colors, is this one right here! If you are looking for one at a lower price point, I recommend this one NF- as an added bonus it has convertible snaps that are so easy to change. This makes the bra ideal to wear with those tanks and dresses where your straps are always showing.
Do it at Home
Don’t have access to a good bra fitter? Amazon has a really awesome online quiz to help you determine your ideal bra size based on the bra you are already wearing. Try it out HERE.
Once you’ve found a size, do you know how to put it on properly? I thought I did, but then I discovered one thing I was doing wrong.
This information came at the right moment!!! I am purchasing bras tomorrow!
Woot Woot Nancy!!! Have fun!
